Ifni was a Spanish province on the Atlantic coast of Morocco whose importance was derived
from its position as a center for the trans-Saharan slave trade, The
Spanish were expelled from the area in 1524 by the Berbers. The territory
and its main town, Sidi Ifni, were ceded to Spain by Morocco in 1859,
and returnedi to Morocco in1969. Spain began issuing postage stamps for
Ifni in 1941, initially overprinting Spanish stamps with "TERRITORIO DE
IFNI", then issuing new designs in 1943. Issues followed at the rate of
about 10/year, the last in 1968.
South Kasai was a secessionist region in the area of south central
Republic of the Congo (Léopoldville) during the early 1960s. The region
-- plagued by Ethnic conflicts and political tensions between leaders of
the central government and local leaders -- sought independence
during the political turmoil arising from the decolonization of Belgian
Congo.
