Guinea-Bissau is a
country in western Africa, and one of the smallest nations in
continental Africa. Formerly the
Portuguese colony of Portuguese Guinea, upon independence, the name of
its capital, Bissau, was added to the country's name in order to prevent
confusion between itself and the Republic of Guinea.
Equatorial Guinea is a
country in Central Africa. comprising : a Continental Region (Río
Muni); and an Insular Region containing Annobón island, Bioko island
(formerly Fernando Po) where the capital of Malabo is situated, and
several offshore islands like Corisco.Formerly the colony of Spanish Guinea, its post-independence
name is suggestive of its location near both the Equator and the Gulf of
Guinea. It is one of the few territories in mainland Africa where
Spanish is an official language.
Despite its name, no part of Equatorial Guinea's territory lies on the
