A role-playing game (RPG) -- a form of interactive and
collaborative storytelling -- is a type of game in which players assume the
roles of characters and collaboratively create narratives according to a
predetermined system of rules and guidelines, When players do perform their characters' physical
actions is known as live-action roleplaying games (LARP).
Video games incorporating settings and game mechanics found in role-playing
games are referred to as computer role-playing games, or CRPGs. while traditional
non-digital are being referred to as "pen and paper" or "tabletop" role-playing
games.
Card wargaming
A relatively recent trend is card-driven games such as: Nuclear War, Naval
War , Armor Supremacy. and Up Front, that
have events outside the area of the map or outside the straightforward
scope of the game play.
Rulebook: Rules vary in complexity and depth Scenarios
wary from a single conflict, with only one starting
point. More flexible systems use a separate scenario book, or cards, that
define separate scenarios for the game, increasing replay value.
Role-playing game systems
BRP Basic Role-Playing was used as the basis for most of the games
published by Chaosium.
CODA System terms character leveling advancing and refers to characters as
having N advancements rather than being of a particular level.
CORPS game system, is a generic role-playing game system. .
The d20 System was published in 2000 by Wizards of
the Coast and originally developed for the third edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

System is intended for pen-and-paper rpg with variations used in live action role-playing games and miniature
battle games.

The End All Be All game system was designed to
adapt to any imaginary gaming environment
FATE system: Fantastic Adventures in Tabletop Entertainment, is a generic
rpg system based on the FUDGE gaming system.
Fudge: is a generic role-playing game system for use in freeform role-playing
games.
Fuzion is a combination of the Interlock
System, and the HERO system which can be played in any genre and setting imaginable.
GURPS or Generic Universal Role Playing Systems designed
to adapt to any imaginary gaming environment.
The Hero System is a generic system used at the underlying mechanics of
other Hero Games using nosn-cubical dice.
The Interlock System is a "skill-based" system — characters are
created by choosing skills for them, and by advancing those skills individually.
The MEGS :
Mayfair Exponential Game System is a rules system developed for
tabletop rpg. It is noteworthy for its use of an exponential
system for measuring nearly everything in the game using a logarithmic
scale.
Megaversal/Palladium is a system which involves roll-under percentile
skill checks, roll-high d20 combat skill checks and roll-low d20 saving throws
The Ore ::One-Roll Engine system is notable for its unique dice rolling
system where matched values on ten-sided dice (d10s) determine all necessary
combat information

is a rules-light generic comedy game available for free on the web.that won the 2001 inaugural RPGnet award for
Best Free RPG.
Rolemaster
come in four separate editions. The 3rd edition is also known as the
Standard System or RMSS..The current edition is called "Rolemaster Fantasy
Roleplaying" (or RMFRP)
Savage Worlds is a universal generic role-playing game and miniatures
wargame emphasizing speed of play and
reduced preparation over realism or detail.
Storyteller/Storytelling
is a role-playing game
system that premiered in Vampire: The Masquerade, a part of the World of
Darkness series
Tri-Stat dX is a generic role-playing game system with adaptable rules that can be applied to many genres and settings.
Unisystem
was developed by C.J. Carella is. used byEden Studios under an
exclusive license, but has offered other game companies to license the system
from them.
