The renminbi is the
currency of the mainland of the People's Republic of China
whose principal unit is the yuan subdivided into
10 jiao , each of 10 fen .
In the forties the People's Bank of China introduced
notes , of 62 different designs, of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1000 yuan.
Followed by notes for 200, 500, 5000 and 10,000 , and 50,000 yuan notes

In the fifties 1, 2
and 5 fen, 1, 2 and 5 jiao, and 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 yuan notes were
issued,. 50 and 100 yuan notes and 20 yuan notes added
later.
The denomination of each banknote is given in the Chinese. The denomination
are also given in Yi, Mongol, Tibetan, Uyghur and Zhuang on the back of
each banknote.
The New Taiwan dollar is the official
currency of the Republic of China within the areas of Taiwan,
Pescadores, Kinmen, and Matsu
The New Taiwan dollar was first issued by the Bank of Taiwan in the
forties to replace the Old Taiwan dollar
In July 2000, the New Taiwan dollar became the official currency of the
ROC and is no longer secondary to the silver yuan. At the same time, the
Central Bank of China began issuing New Taiwan dollar banknotes directly
and the old notes issued by the Bank of Taiwan were taken out of
circulation.
