The dollar has been the currency of Suriname since
2004. It is divided into 100 cents.
and replaced the Surinamese guilder on 2004, with one
dollar equal to 1000 guilders. Initially
banknotes isse was delayed until mid-February, reportedly due to a problem at the
printer, the Bank of Canada.
In 2004, the government introduced notes (muntbiljet) for 1 and 2½ dollars,
with the Central Bank of Suriname introducing notes for 5, 10, 20, 50 and
100 dollars.
