Mattel, Inc.  was established in 1945-present by Harold Matson and Elliot Handler in California, USA. Best known for their Barbie and Friends products they had many baby type dolls, toys and wonderfully innovative products that have enthralled many a child and continue to captivate adults with their collector dolls and products over the years.

1959-1976 Barbie Family & Friends, various sizes. All the dolls in this series, also fashions, gift sets and miscellaneous.  Barbie's wardrobe thru these years.

1960-1965 Chatty Cathy family, Chatty Cathy, 20" tall, vinyl and plastic doll. There were quite a few dolls in this series over the years. Was also sold in Canada,

1961 Sister Belle the talking girl by Mattel, 16" tall, stuffed cloth and hard plastic, yellow yarn hair, painted facial features, battery operated pull string talker; she says 11 phrases , was wearing a cotton blue and white diagonal  striped dress with appliquéd red mittens in front, red short sleeve shirt and stockings with attached black cotton shoes.

1961 Matty the talking boy or Matty Mattel, 16" tall, stuffed cloth and hard plastic, orange yarn hair, pull string talker that says 11 phrases like Belle, was Sister Belle's companion doll and along with Casper and his friend Wendy were cartoon characters used in Mattel commercials during this era. Is wearing red and white striped shirt with black shorts and white tennis shoes and a felt crown shaped hat.

1962-1964 Chatty Baby, 18" tall, part of the Chatty Cathy family of dolls, hard plastic jointed body with vinyl head and rooted hair.

1963 Casper the Friendly Ghost, 16" tall, plush stuffed fur body, vinyl face, pull string talker, marked 1962 Mattel Inc. Hawthorne Calif. There is also a companion doll named Wendy.

1963-1964 Charmin' Chatty, 24" tall, part of the Chatty Cathy family of dolls, hard plastic jointed body with vinyl head and rooted hair.

1963 Shrinkin Violette often referred to as Shrinking Violet, 17" tall, stuffed cloth doll, talker with pull string, eyes and mouth moved when she talked, printed face with blue eyes, yellow yarn pigtail hair with violet ribbons, violet dress, white socks and black mary jane shoes .

1963-1964 Tiny Chatty Baby, or Tiny Chatty Brother, 15" tall, all vinyl, white or black doll, rooted hair, sleep eyes, two upper teeth showing, talker, wearing an aqua jumper with attached white bib with dolls name embroidered in aqua,

1964 Baby Pattaburp, 16" tall, soft body with vinyl head and rooted hair.

1964 Dee Dee, 15" tall, rooted hair, painted eyes, jointed body.

1964-1980's Drowsy, 14" tall, vinyl head and hands on earliest dolls, later hands
were cloth, stuffed cloth body, pull cord talker, sleep eyes, and painted facial features, earliest dolls were dressed in a Kitty print sleeper with feet and rear drop seat, later ones in same sleeper design now in pink with large white polka dots.

1964-67 Patters Pillow doll, cloth pull string talker, think there were several in this series, about 18" tall, should have a tag sewn into side that identifies the doll.

1964 Scooba Doo 23" tall, rooted platinum hair, black cloth body with voice box & flesh colored elbows to hands, talker, painted eyes with real lashes, dressed in a striped a line dress.

1964 Swingy, 17" tall, hard plastic jointed body with vinyl head and rooted hair..

1964 Timey Tell, 17" tall, all vinyl, rooted blonde hair, with a watch, talker.

1965-1967 Baby First Step, Talking Baby First Step, 18" tall, battery operated talker or walker, rooted hair, sleep eyes. Unsure if she is shown in original outfit.

1965 Herman Munster, hand puppet or full body doll 21" tall, green vinyl head & hands, cloth body.

1965-1970 Liddle Kiddles, various small sizes, see the Liddle Kiddle Menu for details and photo's of all the dolls in this series.

1965 Singing Chatty, 17" tall, part of the Chatty Cathy family of dolls, came with blonde or brunette hair, sleep eyes, closed smiling mouth, shown in her original red dress, replaced socks, shoes & hair ribbon.

1966 Baby Secret, 18" tall, soft baby body with vinyl head and rooted hair, open mouth.

1966 Baby See 'N Say, 17" tall, pull string talker, vinyl doll with rooted hair.

1966-1967 Cheerful Tearful, 7" or 13" tall, vinyl with rooted hair, changes faces happy or sad.

1966 Patootie, 16" tall, stuffed cloth body, pull string talker, vinyl head and hands, painted facial features of a clown, came with an additional "sad" mask.

1967-1968 Baby's Hungry, 17" tall, soft vinyl with rooted hair, battery operated, eyes move and mouth chews.

1967 Baby Whisper, 16" tall, pull string talker, marked 1967 Hong Kong.

1967 Buffy & Mrs. Beasley, (Family Affair TV show) 6" or 10" tall, vinyl doll with bendy wired limbs, painted eyes, based on the TV character from the 1960's TV show Family Affair played by Anissa Jones, Buffy carried her tiny Mrs. Beasley cloth doll.

1967 Mrs. Beasley, 16" tall, cloth doll, with vinyl head rooted hair, painted eyes, black eye glasses, closed smiling mouth, just like the tiny one carried by the Buffy doll from the 1960's TV show "Family Affair".

1967 Randi Reader, 19-20" tall, talker, recites nursery rhymes.

1967 Sister Small Talk, 10 1/2" tall, blonde rooted hair, the one pictured MIB and is Canadian.

1967 Teachy Keen, battery operated talker, says several phrases, think she was part of the Drowsy family. HTF

1967 Tippee Toes, 17" tall, plastic jointed body with vinyl head and rooted hair.

1968 Bouncy Baby, 11" tall, marked on neck: 1968 Mattel, Inc. and on back; Mattel, Inc. Mexico Hong Kong.

1968 Grampa & Grandma, 20" tall, pull string with voice box talker doll, cloth doll with attached blue plaid shirt, red print tie, blue slacks, black cloth shoes, and printed facial features with black eye glasses.

1968 Swingy, 20" tall, battery operated, came with record and Tiny Swingy, 11 1/2" tall, also battery operated, marked 1967 Mattel Inc.

1968 Valerie, 10 1/2" tall, vinyl and plastic, rooted blonde hair, painted blue eyes, marked 1967/Mattel, Inc/Hong Kong.

1969 Upsy Downsy Land, 5" tall, dolls, Wizzers, and books in this doll series.

1969-1971 Dancerina, 12", 16", or 24" tall, dancing doll in pink tutu tallest one 24" , all are battery operated dolls.


1969 Dancerina or Dancerella, 20" tall,  wearing a white and pink tutu, red plastic crown when pulled the doll danced.

1972 Baby Dancerina, 12" tall, wears the green and silver tutu, in photo at bottom right, doing the splits.

1969 Baby Go Bye-Bye and Her Bumpety Buggy, 11" tall, hard plastic & vinyl head with rooted hair, sat in a car, battery operated doll.

1969 Baby Tender Love, talks, 15" tall?, drink wet type, a non-posable stuffed body, rooted blonde hair with pink vinyl bow on top of head, pull string talker, says; Kiss Baby, Go Bye Bye, Da - Da Daddy, Night - Night, Mama Mama and she giggles. Wore a printed cotton shift dress with white shoes.

1969 Dick Van Dyke, 25" tall, talker, maybe based on the character, Caractacus Potts played by Dick Van Dyke in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie in 1968.

1969 Hi Dottie, 17" tall, tall, hard plastic jointed body with vinyl head and blonde rooted hair, brown painted eyes.

1969 Myrtle, 14" tall, pull string talker, cloth stuffed body, plastic face and hands, painted facial features, big wide open mouth, yellow yarn pigtail hair, dressed ina peach printed
dress with white apron and chartreuse ric rak trim.

1969 Sketchy, 19" tall, hard plastic jointed body with vinyl head and rooted hair, sleep eyes, open
mouth.
