Molded ornaments made of
plaster of Paris, commonly known as chalkware,
portray subjects as whimsical as spotted cats and
speckled rabbits and as noble as royalty and heroes.
Produced in Europe and America from the eighteenth
to the twentieth century, chalkware was an
inexpensive substitute for ornaments made of marble,
wax, earthenware, porcelain, glass, or wood. Used
for the reproductions of statues, plaques, sculptures, art
objects, animals, bells, figurines, miniatures , book ends &
planters
