Basket weaving , basket making, or basketmaking is the
process of weaving unspun vegetable fibers into a basket .
Basketry is made from a variety of fibrous or pliable materials
that will bend and form a shape such as. pine straw, animal hair,
hide, grasses, thread, and wood.
People who weave baskets , as a profession or a hobby, are called
basketmakers and their work may be considered a craft or an art.
Basket reed is produced from the core rattan which grows like a vine
into the forest canopy. Rattan for commercial use is harvested mostly in the
jungles of South East Asia and Indonesia then
is cut into long pieces of 20 feet or more.then debarked and boiled
to prevent blue staining and kill any insect..
and finally shipped in bundles to factories where they are
graded, washed in
water, cleaned with sand and a cloth to be ready to make chair cane and round core reeds.
