A Collectable or collectible is a manufactured
item designed for people to collect. Some
objects designed for other purposes, such as toys,
become so popular among collectors that they are
later marketed specifically to that audience.
A souvenir is an object a traveler brings home for the
memories associated with it such
clothing and household items.
Similar to a souvenir, memorabilia is an object that is treasured for its
memories; however, unlike souvenirs, memorabilia are
valued for a connection to a historical event,
culture or entertainment.
Collecting consists of acquiring specific items
-- antique, or simply collectible --.based on a particular interest of the collector. Antiques
are collectible items at least 100 years old;
collectibles may even be new and the word
vintage is used to describe older collectibles.
These collections of things --many purchased for
investment -- are often highly
organized, carefully cataloged, and attractively
displayed. Depending on condition, age,
supply, and demand., individuals, auctioneers, and
secondary retailers may sell a collectible for more,
the same, or less than what they originally paid for
it since there is no secondary market for an item unless
someone is willing to buy it, and an object's value
is whatever the buyer is willing to pay for it.

The most popular fields in
collecting have specialized commercial dealers that
trade in the items being collected, as well as
related accessories. Many of these dealers started
as collectors themselves, then turned their hobby
into a profession.
Some collectors are generalists
