In the eighteen century  were introduced 1, 5, 10, 20 and 40 para coins n copper,. ½, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 kuruş in silver , ¼, ½, 1, 2½ and 5 lira in gold..  In 1899, billon 5 and 10 para were issued followed by nickel 5, 10, 20 and 40 kuruş 
In the nineteen century  new coins of aluminium-bronze 100 para, 5 and 10 kuruş and nickel 25 kuruş were  the lasti ssued. with inscriptions in  Arabic .

In the thirties silver 100 kuruş coins were issued, followed the next year by  cupro-nickel 1, 5 and 10 kuruş, and silver 25 and 50 kuruş and 1 lira. Aluminium-bronze 10 para coins were issued in the forties.  Nickel-brass replaced silver in the 25 kuruş and brass 1, 2½, 5, 10 and 25 kuruş were introduced later.. The silver 50 kuruş and 1 lira were discontinued and cupro-nickel 1 lira issued in 1957.

In the sixties bronze 1, 5 and 10 kuruş and steel 25 kuruş, 1 and 2½ lira were issued, followed by steel 50 kuruş and 5 lira  later . Aluminium replaced bronze.

In the eighties aluminium 1, 5 and 10 lira coins were issued  followed: by 20, 50 and 100 lira, 25 lira, 500 lira i, 1000 lira i, 2500 lira , 5000 lira i, 10,000 lira , 25,000 lira , 50,000 and 100,000 lira , and 250,000 lira.

In 2005 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 new (Yeni) kuruş and 1 new (Yeni) lira all showing portrati of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, were issued. The 1 new (Yeni) kuruş in brass and the 5, 10 and 25 new kuruş in cupro-nickel, whilst the 50 new kuruş and 1 new lira are bimetallic
