1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 fils were introduced in the forties.
The first issue of 1 fils were mistakenly minted with the denomination given as
"1 fil". 20 fils coins were minted until 1965, 25 fils introduced in
the sixties
and ¼ dinar coins in the forties.In the nineties smaller ¼ dinar coins were introduced alongside ½ and 1 dinar coins.
Syrian cupro-nickel ½ qirsh coins were introduced in the twenties followed by
aluminium bronze 2 and 5 qirshan and holed, nickel-brass 1 qirsh and
silver 10, 25 and 50 qirsha . Nickel-brass ½ qirsh were
iossued in the thirties, followed by zinc 1 qirsh and aluminium-bronze 2½ qirsh in
the forties
During the Second World War, brass 1 qirsh and aluminium 2½ qirsh emergency
coins were were crudely produced.
In the forties 2½, 5,
10, 25 and 50 qirsha and 1 poundcoins were issued with the 2½, 5 and 10 qirush struck in
cupro-nickel and the others in silver. Aluminium-bronze replaced cupro-nickel in
the sixties with nickel replacing silver. Later
new 1, 2, 5, 10 and 25 pounds a bimetallic coin wee issued. In 2003 5, 10,
and 25 pound coins were introduced.
