silver ½ and 1 afghani, and gold ½ and 1 amani , silver 2½
afghani and gold 2½ amani . In the thirties bronze and brass 1 and 25 pu,
bronze 3 pul and cupro-nickel 10 and 20 pul were added
In the fifties aluminium 25 pul and nickel-clad-steel 50 pul, aluminium 2 and 5 afghani in 1958 and nickel-clad-steel 1, 2 and 5 afghani
were introduced. In the seventies the Republic of Afghanistan issued
brass-clad-steel 25 pul, copper-clad-steel 50 pul and cupro-nickel-clad-steel 5
afghani coins followed by issues of the Democratic Republic of
Afghanistan of aluminium-bronze 25 and 50 pul and cupro-nickel 1, 2
and 5 afghani.
In the fortiesf 1 pice, ½, 1 and 2 annas, ¼,
½ and 1 rupee. folllowed by 1 pie coins and coins for 1, 5 and 10 pice were
issued by Pakistan, followed by 1 paisa, 5 and 10 paise coins.
In the sixties, 10 and 25 paise coins, 2 paise and 1 rupee were
introduced, followed by 2 rupees and 5 rupees in 2002.
In the seventies 5, 10, 25 and 50 poisha. 1
poisha coins followed in 1974, with 1 taka coins were introduced in Bangladesh The 1, 5
and 10 poisha in aluminium, the 25 and 50 poisha struck in
steel and the 1 taka in cupro-nickel. The 5 poisha were square with rounded
corners, whilst the 10 poisha were scalloped. Steel 5 taka and a steel 2 taka coin followed in 2004.
