First cedi coins of 5, 10, 25 and 50 pesewas were issued.. All coins bore the portrait of Kwame Nkrumah.Coins for the second cedi were introduced in denominations of ½, 1, 2½, 5, 10 and 20 pesewas. In the seventies coins for 50 pesewas and 1 cedi were introduced. but replaced in 1984 by smaller types alongside a new 5 cedi coin.Now fallen out of circulation .

In the nineties, 10, 20, 50 and 100, 200, 500 were introduced and are still in circulation. after that
The new coins are 1 pesewa (100 old cedi), 5 pesewa (500), 10 pesewa (1000), 20 pesewa (2000), 50 pesewa (5000) and 1 cedi (10,000).

Botswana coins
In the seventies  1 thebe in aluminium , 5 in bronze , 10, 25 and 50 thebe and 1 pula coins cupro-nickel were issued..  The coins were round except for the scalloped 1 pula. Bronze, dodecagonal 2 thebe coins were introduced in the eighties. In  the nineties bronze plated steel replaced cupro-nickel in the 5 thebe, nickel-plated steel replaced cupro-nickel in the 10, 25 and 50 thebe and the 1 pula changed to a smaller, nickel-brass,  heptagonal coin. A similarly shaped,  2 pula was introduced in the nineties..Later on smaller 5, 10, 25 and 50 thebe coins and a bimetallic 5 pula was introduced .
