In the early 1980's when bears were becoming very popular, Raikes decided to use his
wood carving talents and make a very different bear. His bears  had the added feature of a hand carved wooden face.  And in 1985 Raikes entered the bear market in a big way with the Applause company. the Bears have been featured in a lot of merchandise as well, some of which includes toys, greeting cards, party goods, cell phone covers, interior decoration sets, stickers, clothing accessories, figurines, ornaments, decorative accessories, Fun Stuff, Purses and Handbags, T-Shirts, Tank Tops, Night Shirts, School Supplies, Bags and Briefcases, Keychains ,Outerwear, Scarves and Ties,Shirts, Watches, Decals, Glasses, hats, bags, Cooke jars,Conforters, Cushions, Stickers, Night lights, and many other goods.
Today the company is run by the Raikes Family, The bears  designed by Robert, are then sent to China to be hand carved and produced. The bears are all hand carved in a variety of small grained woods, although maple is the most commonly used. Faces are stained, painted, lacquered and then sewn out of mohair.
