Abingdon Pottery was established in 1908 as the
Abingdon Sanitary Manufacturing Company.
Although Abingdon pottery was originally sold in gift shops; it
was an ideal decorating compliment to the 1940’s home. Glazes in pinks, greens,
blues and grays fit nicely with the period’s china and furniture. The
manufacturer's presence has extended to vases, wall pocket, beer sets, beer
pots, bowls planter,centerbowl, flower pots, grease jar,jars,
jam pot, cornucopia, creamer, cookie jar, canisters, consoles, Serving
bowls,compote, cigarette box, conch shell, console set, candleholder, bulb
bowls, busts, canister set, bookends,lamps. pitchers, jardinieres, incence
burners, ashtray, humidors, baskets, powder jars, temple jars, water coolers,
washing pots.. Although vase shapes tend to be classical, motifs are most often
distinctively art deco. Authentic Abingdon Pottery is evidenced by the high quality of the clay;
heavy, dense, white, vitreous china- finished with great attention to quality
and detail.
